Bexely Times 24: In July at a McDonalds restaurant, a father sent his sons in to the restroom, just like so many of us parents. The boys were age seven and age four. While they were in the restroom Simon Archer raped the two boys. Archer, who is a 23-year-old man left once one of the boys started crying. The father or mother knew nothing of this incident. Some time later the mother suggested that they eat again at the McDonalds restaurant and the young boys refused to go and were upset. This gave a clue to the parents that something was not right.
It turns out that Archer had a previous conviction for sexual activity towards two young children. Archer has been found guilty of one count of oral rape and two counts of penetration. He is due to be sentenced on January 26th. For more information see this story.
Sunday Tribune: There is a massive increase in the trade of child pornography which is attributed to the access to the internet. Dr. Niall Muldoon, national clinical director of Children at Risk in Ireland (CARI) said, “This has to be a wake-up call. The people who are doing this are living in communities all over the country. They are our neighbours, people we all know.”
Ireland is not the only country that has this problem. It is happened all across the world. The victims are children, even babies. In the first three months of 2010, more than 1,000 computers across the country each month were downloading or trading these illegal images with people online all over the world.
According this article, there is an increase rise in people with an interest in pornographic photos of children on peer-to-peer networks. Peer-to-peer networks access each other’s computers to share files that include the pornography. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) estimates that a significant proportion of the child porn industry is commercial, rather than the peer-to-peer networks.
The internet has facilitated the child port industry. People are being prosecuted. Sites are shut down, but they show up again disguised with a new web address. Most countries have blocked access to child porn site. Ireland is working on legislation to do the same.
TLO, a software company, monitors chat rooms and other internet related communication. The service is free and being used in 36 countries, including the states of U.S. According to this article, “in 1995, Interpol had 4,000 photos or videos containing child pornography. Now, there are millions of unique images. In 1995, the number of children abused in order to produce child porn was in the hundreds. Today, tens of thousands of children are being raped and assaulted to satisfy this burgeoning industry.” For more information read this story. Warning, the article is graphic.

The Australian: Student at the school were very aware of the abusive behavior of priest John Sidney Denham. Denham, a pedophile, brutalized dozens of students. Yet the teacher and other priests of the school where Denham worked were aware of the situation but chose to ignore it.
Between 1968 and 1986, Denham abused 39 boys at schools and parishes. The boy’s age ranged between five years old and 16 years old. One of Denham’s victims said there were many more boys but they did not report it. He also believed that some of the boys committed suicide after being abused by the priest.
Denham started teaching in 1975 and it is believed he immediately began abusing students. He made the boys perform anal sex and oral sex. In the ten years Denham had been transferred to new school. Denham himself admitted that even though some of his transfers to different schools seemed to have been prompted by allegations of sexual impropriety, he had only ever received “oblique warnings” over his conduct. In fact, a senior priest made a false written statement to protect Denham. He is the only senior figure to be convicted for covering up abuse.
Denham was sentenced yesterday to a term of 19 years and 10 months, with a non-parole period of 13 years. The courtroom, which was packed with Denham’s victims and their families, broke out in applause when Justice Syme handed down the punishment. Matthew Oakley, a complainant in the case, said, “Victims of abuse no longer have to hide as there is no shame in this.” Check this story out for more information.
